Eperjes
The community of Eperjes is found 26 km from Szentes in the northeast part of Csongrád County.
The farmsteads around the community, the areas of Kiskirályság and Újváros, were populous locales in the Middle Ages. Kiskirályság (little kingdom) received its name in memory of King Matthias Hunyadi: Mihály Szilágyi resettled the inhabitants of the destroyed village of Zeleméres here on one of the Hunyadi estates.
The town itself was built during and after World War II. In the beginning family homes were built on the basis of standard designs that preserved Hungarian architec tural motifs with the support of the National Social and Family Protection Fund. Some of these buildings still stand today. The population of the village, which is surrounded by huge arable fields, lives from farming. There once was significant sheep farming on the alkaline flats within its borders.
